Trust Statement Regarding Stadium News

GLOUCESTER City’s supporters Trust has issued a response to the story that appeared in The Citizen and earlier today regarding the plans for a new community stadium on the site of meadow park being under threat.

The statement reads:

Gloucester City Supporter’s Trust are extremely disappointed to hear that plans for a new community stadium for Gloucester City Football club are on the verge of collapse.

The Trust have not been informed of this development personally by the clubs owners prior to the article in The Citizen and as a major backer we call upon the owners of the football club to release a full statement to the supporters as to why this situation has come to pass.

We would also like to seek clarification from Gloucester City Council as to their position on the matter. The Trust would like to reassure its membership that it will do everything it can to seek the necessary answers and help Gloucester City Football Club move forward.

Since day one Gloucester City Supporter’s Trust has been supportive of the club’s efforts to return to the City and have been patient in regards to the time that process has taken to develop and trusted the owners with the information we have been supplied.

Over the past few years, the supporters of the club have been repeatedly told that a return to land at the Meadow Park site, raised and defended by a series of flood defence measures, was the only option viable.

The latest developments cause concern that if these plans are not workable then where does the club go from here?

We are also concerned with the length of time the planning process has taken as extension after extension to the current ground sharing agreement with Cheltenham Town has been signed along with previous tenancies at Forest Green Rovers and Cirencester Town.

Since its inception The Trust has raised almost £500,000 for the football club with many of its members donating their time to the smooth running of the football club.

The supporters of Gloucester City deserve answers from the owners of the club and an indication of the owners intentions to bring the club back to its home city.

Gloucester City Supporters Trust, as one of the club’s main backers and sponsors, will continue to pursue these requests until they are met.

The Trust will hold a meeting to discuss a way forward and is seeking advice from the Supporters Direct organisation. Representatives from The Trust will also be present at the meeting of the football club on Wednesday.
